Cleveland Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee won the American League Gold Glove Award on Sunday.
The 27-year-old right-hander becomes the second pitcher in franchise history to receive the honor. He follows Shane Bieber, who won the award in 2022.
Bibee earned the distinction based on his defensive metrics during the 2026 season. He ranked third in the American League with 18 assists. He also tied for third in pickoffs with four and recorded 11 putouts.
His defensive accolade arrived alongside a mixed statistical year on the mound. Bibee finished with a 7-15 win-loss record and a 4.36 earned run average. He struck out 148 batters but did not pitch in the American League Championship Series.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt praised Bibee's consistency during the end-of-season media availability two weeks ago. "If you look at Tanner Bibee's regular season, he did everything we needed him to do," Vogt said. "He took the ball every five to six days, gave us length. I think he led our team in innings. You know, so he was our rock in that rotation, and I don't see that role changing in ‘27."
Outfielder Steven Kwan, also nominated for a Gold Glove in centerfield, lost the award to Ceddanne Rafaela of the Boston Red Sox. It is the first time since entering the major leagues that Kwan has not won the defensive prize.
