The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19 on Sunday night to end the visitors' perfect season.
The game marked the first loss of the 2026 campaign for Kansas City, who had won their first six contests. Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards and one touchdown. He avoided being sacked, a sharp contrast to the previous two weeks when he was dropped five times in each game. Despite a strong first half performance where he completed 13 of 17 attempts for 178 yards, Darnold threw an interception into traffic in the back of the end zone as the first half ended. That pick was his eighth in the last five games.
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba provided the offensive spark for Seattle. He finished with 129 receiving yards in the first half alone, the most in any half of his career. According to ESPN Research, he is the first player in the Super Bowl era to record at least 850 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in his team's first seven games. His season totals of 867 yards and eight scores lead the NFL.
The Chiefs' receiving corps struggled significantly without Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton. Rice missed the game with a strained right hamstring, while Thornton is on injured reserve following ankle surgery. The remaining group, including Xavier Worthy and rookie Cyrus Allen, combined for only six receptions and 39 yards. Running back Kenneth Walker III, the former Super Bowl MVP, was held to 36 yards on 14 carries. The Seahawks never allowed him to gain more than nine yards on a single rush.
Patrick Mahomes posted a season-low output in the loss. He threw for only 165 yards and has not thrown a touchdown in his last two games. He has surpassed 250 passing yards just once in his final four appearances. Fantasy analyst Michael Florio noted that Mahomes' struggles continue, with a season-low six fantasy points in this contest.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba described the team's mindset before the game. "Our backs were against the wall. How we came out here as a brotherhood and fought .. the resiliency of our team is something special, and we're going to keep going," he said.
The Seahawks will host the Chicago Bears on Sunday, November 2, at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Chiefs travel to the Denver Broncos the following week for a 4:25 p.m. ET start.
