Manchester United fans booed their players off the pitch after a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth on Sunday.

The defeat extended the club's worst start to a Premier League season in 40 years. It also cast doubt on the future of the entire senior setup, from ownership to the playing squad.

Supporters had traditionally remained loyal through managerial changes, but the mood shifted on Sunday. They cheered manager Michael Carrick off the field before turning to boo the players.

The team's scoring woes are central to the crisis. Since Cristiano Ronaldo left in November 2022, United have lacked a consistent goalscorer. Rasmus Hojlund was sent back to Italy, and the summer arrival of Benjamin Sesko has been hampered by injuries.

United’s top scorer, Bryan Mbeumo, has four goals. Eight other Premier League players have more. The squad has tried using wide players Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as strikers, with limited success.

Bruno Fernandes, the club's standout performer, was also booed despite not playing. His absence from the field was punishment for his criticism of Carrick’s tactics after a loss to Como in the Champions League. Fernandes, 32, remains the player who drives the team when he is on form.

Off the pitch, fans are questioning the leadership structure. The Glazer family has held a stake since 2005, and CEO Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox face anger over recent signings. Defender Lisandro Martinez publicly criticized Wilcox for a lack of summer investment.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group invested two years ago, promising training ground upgrades and stadium renovations. The financial return has been minimal so far. Ratcliffe and the Glazers are viewed by supporters as equally unwanted figures.

The club failed to sign a left-back in the summer window. Lewis Hall of Newcastle United was linked to a move, but the deal fell through. This lack of depth in that position was a key factor in Martinez's public complaints.

Tactical identity remains a source of friction. Fernandes criticized Carrick for sitting too deep against Como. The club has historically favored an attacking style, but recent managers have experimented with defensive setups or complex formations that confused players.

Gary Neville, speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday, claimed that several squad members lack professionalism. He stated that some players are not professional enough to be in the first team.

The next test for United is scheduled for the upcoming Premier League round, where the squad must address the scoring deficit and tactical uncertainty.
