Halloween evening in Portland will bring cool temperatures ranging from 45 to 53 degrees Fahrenheit. The sky remains mostly cloudy, creating suitable conditions for families walking the streets. Forecasters indicate a slight chance of a stray sprinkle, but most neighborhoods should stay dry. Residents are advised to bring jackets as they head out for candy.
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday. Clocks fall back one hour, giving everyone an extra hour of sleep. This shift alters the local sunset time immediately. Until January 20, sunsets in Portland will occur in the 4:00 p.m. hour. The change also impacts the timing of evening activities and commutes for the remainder of the season.
This month has tracked slightly warmer than normal averages. Portland accumulated nearly two inches of rain over the last week. That precipitation prevented October from becoming the driest on record for the city. The recent rainfall helped replenish local soil moisture after a dry start to the month.
Sunday begins with patchy fog before afternoon sun breaks through. High temperatures will reach the mid-50s. Monday brings mostly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 50s. Tuesday sees morning clouds dissipate into mostly sunny afternoon conditions, with temperatures climbing to the low 60s.
A weather trough moves into the Pacific Northwest midweek. Showers are expected to begin Wednesday evening and continue through Friday. Current models suggest these showers will be relatively weak, resulting in light accumulation. The following Saturday trends toward dry weather as the system exits the area.
