King County's Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center turns 35 years old on Wednesday, when a public event in Federal Way will mark the anniversary. The gathering runs from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the facility's banquet room at 650 SW Campus Drive.
The event, detailed in an October 27 release from King County Council member Pete von Reichbauer, will recognize the history of the venue and the people who built its competitive swimming and diving programs. It will also honor founding director Mike Dunwiddie and the staff members who have worked at the center over the years.
The center opened in 1990. Since then, it has hosted Olympians, national champions and local swimmers, along with major competitions. It also runs programs that teach residents to swim.
The facility sits in South King County and serves as a venue for swimming, diving and community recreation. Its 35-year run has made it a fixture for aquatic sports in the region.
Wednesday's event runs for 90 minutes and is open to the public at the banquet room.
