Gas prices in Pocatello fell by 22 cents per gallon this week, marking the largest weekly drop in Idaho. The average price in the city now stands at $4.61 per gallon according to data provided by AAA.
Across the state, the average gas price decreased by 13 cents per gallon. In Boise, the average price is now $4.71, while Rexburg remains the most expensive city on the list at $4.78 per gallon. Coeur d'Alene offers the lowest average price in the state at $4.37 per gallon. Other cities, including Franklin and Idaho Falls, report an average price of $4.63, and Lewiston is at $4.40.
Despite the weekly decline, costs remain elevated compared to previous periods. The current average price is 33 cents lower than last month but $1.27 higher than the price recorded at this time last year. Matthew Conde, public affairs director for AAA Idaho, noted that the crude oil market remains under intense pressure. He stated that conflict and uncertainty are driving higher prices for the major product that powers the global economy.
Conde added that while retail gas prices are currently falling, the rising cost of crude oil is impossible to ignore. The data reflects a mix of local retail changes and national energy trends. The state's price variations show a spread of 41 cents between the highest and lowest averages, with Pocatello's recent drop narrowing the gap between eastern and western Idaho cities.
The recent price movement follows a period of higher costs for Idaho drivers. The 22-cent reduction in Pocatello represents a notable shift in the regional market. AAA tracks these figures to provide consumers with up-to-date information on fuel costs across the state. The current averages show a continued trend of fluctuation in the energy sector.
