The Los Angeles Angels have until December 1 to complete their 2027 roster construction. Owners are expected to begin a lockout on that date, which will freeze all major league player movement. The team has 33 days to execute trades and sign free agents before the market shuts down.

Interim general manager John Mozeliak currently oversees the club's baseball operations. He is assisting incoming owner Stan Kroenke with a search for a permanent head of baseball operations. That new hire will select the next manager. Mozeliak remains in charge until a replacement is named.

Free agent contracts can be signed starting Monday at 2 p.m. PT. This date marks the fifth day after the World Series concluded. The Angels face an immediate decision regarding right-hander Robert Stephenson. They hold a $2.5 million option on him without a buyout clause.

Stephenson underwent his second Tommy John surgery in April 2026. He will not be able to pitch until mid-2027. The club has paid him $33 million for three seasons in which he threw only 10 innings. Mozeliak and his staff will likely decline the option, sending Stephenson into free agency along with catcher Travis d’Arnaud and infielders Adam Frazier and Yoán Moncada.

The next major date is November 9, when the GM Meetings begin in Las Vegas. Executive meetings typically involve quiet groundwork for the offseason. The impending lockout may force a faster pace of negotiations during that week. Mozeliak can also use the event to interview candidates for the permanent general manager position.

Teams must designate minor league players for the 40-man roster by November 17 to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. The lockout may cancel the draft, as it did during the previous work stoppage. However, clubs may not know the status of the draft by that deadline. Outfielder Nelson Rada is the most prominent name on the Angels' list of players needing protection.

On November 20, the club must decide which arbitration-eligible players to retain. The Angels have 11 such players on their roster. Shortstop Zach Neto, first baseman Nolan Schanuel, and starters Reid Detmers and Grayson Rodriguez are certain to remain. Relievers Ben Joyce, Sam Bachman, and Tayler Saucedo are also likely to stay. Outfielders José Siri and Josh Lowe, catcher Tyler Heineman, and infielder Oswald Peraza face uncertainty regarding their futures with the team.

Declining arbitration claims will add new players to the free agent market. This action will trigger a final round of trades before the December 1 freeze. Once the lockout begins, the Angels can still hire a manager and other front office staff, but they cannot move major league players until the dispute is resolved.
